The Princess Captain’s Circle loyalty program has four levels: Gold, Ruby, Platinum, and Elite — with better perks unlocked as you complete more Princess cruises or accumulate more cruise days.
The program is actually pretty easy to understand once you strip away the fine print. Complete your first Princess cruise and you’re Gold. Complete three and you qualify for Ruby. Five gets you to Platinum. Fifteen gets you to Elite. Longer cruises can also move you through the program based on your total cruise days.
And in my view, there is a very clear dividing line in this program: Gold and Ruby are nice, but Platinum is where the perks start getting much more interesting.

Your Captain’s Circle level is based on either completed cruises or cruise days, whichever gets you to the next tier first. You do not need to meet both requirements.
I’ve now sailed Princess twice myself, so I’m currently working my way through Captain’s Circle too.
Princess currently lists these as the four Captain’s Circle thresholds. One important detail: your higher tier becomes active on the next cruise after you complete the required cruises or cruise days.
Where I’m At: Gold
I’ve sailed on two Princess cruises, which currently puts me at Gold.
My next milestone is Ruby. Once I complete my third qualifying Princess cruise, I’ll have met the Ruby requirement, with the new tier applying on my following cruise.
I actually like having this perspective while writing the guide because I’m not looking down at the loyalty program from Elite status after dozens of Princess cruises. I’m climbing the same ladder many readers are.
And right now, Platinum is the level that looks much more interesting to me than Ruby.
Gold Captain’s Circle Level

Gold is the starting level of Captain’s Circle.
How to qualify: Complete your first Princess cruise.
Princess currently includes these Gold benefits:

These are mostly membership benefits rather than benefits that dramatically change your cruise.
Is Princess Gold Status Worth Much?
Gold is nice to have, but I wouldn’t chase it for the perks.
Preferential offers and earlier access to new itineraries can certainly be useful, especially if you’re already planning another Princess cruise. The members-only events are another nice touch.
But there isn’t one benefit at Gold that would make me choose Princess over another cruise line.
That’s fine. You’ve only taken one Princess cruise at this point. Gold feels more like Princess saying, welcome back, than rewarding serious loyalty.
Ruby Captain’s Circle Level
3 Cruises or 30 Cruise Days
Ruby is the second Captain’s Circle tier.
How to qualify:
- Complete 3 qualifying cruises, or
- Complete 30 cruise days
Ruby includes the Gold benefits plus exclusive shoreside access to the Captain’s Circle Help Desk phone line for eligible members.
That’s basically the story.
Is Ruby Worth Getting Excited About?
Not really.
Ruby feels much more like a stepping-stone than a destination.
That doesn’t mean the dedicated Captain’s Circle help line is useless. Having a dedicated contact can be valuable when you actually need help.
But compare that with what happens two cruises later at Platinum and the difference is huge.
If you’re sitting at two Princess cruises like I am, reaching Ruby is a fun milestone. I just wouldn’t change my cruising plans solely to get there.
Platinum Captain’s Circle Level
5 Cruises or 50 Cruise Days
This is where Captain’s Circle starts getting much more interesting.
How to qualify:
- Complete 5 qualifying cruises, or
- Complete 50 cruise days
Platinum includes the Gold and Ruby benefits plus:
- 50% off MedallionNet Wi-Fi packages
- Early access to dining reservations
- 10% off Lotus Spa treatments
- 10% off qualifying Photo Gallery purchases
- Access to an exclusive lounge during disembarkation
Princess’s current 2026 benefits guide lists those perks for Platinum and Elite members.
This Is Where the Perks Get Good
Platinum would be my first real target in this program.
The biggest reason is the 50% MedallionNet discount.
Wi-Fi is something plenty of cruisers actually buy, so getting it for half price is much easier to put a value on than a recognition pin or another members-only event.
There is some fine print. Princess says eligible pre-cruise MedallionNet purchases are discounted onboard through a folio refund, and the loyalty discount can’t be combined with other MedallionNet offers or promotions.
Early dining access is also more valuable than it might initially sound. Princess says Platinum and Elite guests can access dining reservations as soon as the cruise deposit is placed.
If you’re particular about dining times or want a specific restaurant on a popular sailing, getting first crack at reservations can remove one more thing you have to fight for later.
The 10% spa and photo discounts aren’t enough to make me chase status, but they’re useful additions if you already spend money in those areas.
Elite Captain’s Circle Level
15 Cruises or 150 Cruise Days
Elite is the highest level of the Princess Captain’s Circle program.
How to qualify:
- Complete 15 qualifying cruises, or
- Complete 150 cruise days
You receive the benefits of the previous levels plus:
- 10% discount in The Shops of Princess
- 10% off qualifying shore excursions
- Priority ship-to-shore water shuttle embarkation
- Complimentary Grapevine Wine Tasting Event
- Complimentary minibar setup
- Deluxe canapé selection on formal nights
- Complimentary afternoon tea in your stateroom
- Priority disembarkation
- Complimentary laundry services
- Complimentary shoe polishing
Elite Is About Convenience
There isn’t one gigantic “you’ve made it” reward like a free cruise.
Instead, Elite gives you a collection of smaller perks that can make cruising easier and cheaper, especially if you sail often.
For me, complimentary laundry is one of the standout benefits.
It isn’t flashy, but on a longer cruise? That’s legitimately useful. Princess notes that the benefit doesn’t include same-day laundry service.
The minibar is another tangible perk. Princess currently provides one complimentary minibar setup per Elite stateroom, subject to the program’s age requirements. The Grapevine wine tasting is offered once per cruise per eligible Elite member.
And if your itinerary uses water shuttles to get ashore, priority embarkation can be more valuable than it looks on paper.
Elite isn’t about one massive reward. It’s about having enough small advantages that Princess starts feeling noticeably easier to cruise.

Remember that the qualifying milestone and the cruise where you actually receive the new tier are not the same thing. Princess applies the higher tier on your next cruise after you meet the requirement.
Princess Captain’s Circle Cruise Credits and Cruise Days Explained
There are essentially two ways to climb the Captain’s Circle ladder.
You can qualify based on your cruises, or you can reach a tier based on total cruise days.
That second route matters most for people who take longer Princess voyages.
For example, Ruby requires three cruises or 30 cruise days. Someone taking short cruises will probably get there through cruise credits. Someone spending weeks aboard Princess ships could reach a threshold through days instead.
Full Suites and Solo Cruising Can Speed Things Up
There is also an important shortcut.
Princess currently awards double cruise credits when you book and sail in an eligible full suite — mini-suites are excluded — or when an eligible solo guest sails alone while paying the applicable single-traveler supplement.
However, cruise days are not doubled.
That’s a major distinction.
If you’re trying to reach a higher Captain’s Circle tier quickly, a full suite or qualifying solo sailing can make the cruise-credit route move considerably faster.
I wouldn’t pay thousands more for a suite just to earn status faster. But if you already prefer suites, the additional cruise credit is a legitimately valuable bonus.
How Quickly Can You Reach Each Princess Loyalty Level?
For someone taking normal cruises in standard cabins, the progression is beautifully simple:
First cruise: Gold
Third cruise: Meet the Ruby threshold
Fifth cruise: Meet the Platinum threshold
Fifteenth cruise: Meet the Elite threshold
The biggest gap is obvious.
Going from Gold to Ruby takes two more cruises.
Ruby to Platinum takes another two.
Then Platinum to Elite requires ten more qualifying cruises if you’re progressing through standard cruise credits.
That’s another reason I see Platinum as such an important sweet spot. You can get there relatively early, and several of the most practical benefits are already unlocked.
Which Princess Loyalty Tier Is Best?
If we’re talking about the best combination of attainability and useful benefits, I think it’s Platinum.
Gold is basically membership.
Ruby gives you another layer of service.
Elite obviously has the biggest collection of perks, but getting there requires significantly more Princess cruising.
Platinum sits right in the sweet spot.
Five qualifying cruises is realistic for someone who discovers they really like Princess, and getting half-price Wi-Fi plus early dining reservations creates benefits you may actually use every sailing.
Elite is better.
Platinum is the level I’d chase first.
Is Princess Captain’s Circle Worth Being Loyal To?
I wouldn’t choose a cruise line I liked less just because I wanted to reach the next loyalty level.
That’s almost always the wrong way to look at cruise loyalty.
A free minibar isn’t worth spending multiple vacations on a cruise line that isn’t your best fit.
But if you already like Princess, Captain’s Circle makes repeat cruising more rewarding without requiring you to start over every time you book another sailing.
That’s where loyalty programs make sense to me.
Choose Princess because you like the ships, service, atmosphere, itineraries, pricing, or overall cruise experience.
Then treat Captain’s Circle status as the bonus.

The Princess Captain’s Circle loyalty program gets much more interesting once you stop looking at all four levels as equal.
Gold is the starting line. Ruby is a stepping-stone. Platinum is the first level I’d genuinely be excited about. Elite is the long-term prize.
I’m currently Gold after two Princess cruises, so Ruby is my next milestone. But Platinum is the level I’m really looking toward because half-price Wi-Fi and earlier dining access are benefits I’d actually notice.
My advice is simple: don’t cruise Princess just to level up. Cruise Princess because you enjoy Princess — and let the loyalty perks get better along the way.
